PearlyT. Works
I am currently the web editor for Facebook Business News Blog and volunteering as a creative content manager for Spokes National and EmbraceRace. Using my experience as a multimedia journalist for clients including Intel, Google, and Airbnb, I specialize in bringing content from ideation and production to launch and award-winning ceremonies, and believe in constantly improving and evolving.
Outside of work, I am deeply invested and engaged in investigative social justice work. I am currently assisting journalist Mikaela Shwer with her documentary on youth abuse in wilderness therapy camps (early 2020), and journalist McKenzie Funk on his book on government surveillance since 9/11 (mid 2020). How Safe Are We (Homeland Security since 9/11), a book that I helped edit and research with Janet Napolitano, former secretary of Department of Homeland Security, was published in 2019.
From science and technology, to foreign relations and politics, my works have been published in Time, The Economist, KQED, Poets&Quants, HK01 (Hong Kong), The New Paper (Singapore) and more.

Full Life-Cycle: Intel RealSense

Project: RealSense Technology Product Launch
Called The Science of Seeing, this multimedia package won a Webby award in 2015 and parts of it were picked up by publications including Medium.
Simplifying complex topics such as 3D vision, machine learning and AI, I named this project after the must-read book for every art student The Art of Seeing and led the multimedia team from planning to launch with content, UX and design consideration.
This project brought together Intel's scientists with writers, audio experts, illustrators, and game designers. Gallery of pre-production notes coming soon.
Full Life-Cycle: Multimedia

Happs.tv is a livestreaming news service where I was brought on for my global working experience and extensive network as an experts producer.
Experimenting with new ways of telling stories, one of the challenges was coordinating experts in different time zones with busy schedules and convincing them to take time to join our livestream discussions on sensitive and personal topics such as the US transgender military ban. To improve this process, I created an expert callsheet on topics ranging from terrorism to international law.

Feature Well Stories is a communications company that was launched in 2018 by renowned journalist Karen Breslau. We worked together closely on a book project before I provided UX design advice and built her website.
With her extensive journalistic experience spanning almost four decades, the biggest challenge was deciding which to highlight to help her attract and grow her client base. After the initial build, we tracked both site visitor habits and behavior to improve desktop and mobile experience.
Creative Content Marketing

BACKGROUND: Up against strong competitors in the tech industry with unique brand personalities and voices, Intel worked with Ready State Marketing in San Francisco to develop a content strategy to grow their audience base and increase exposure and recall rate.
INTENTION: To create a voice for Intel that was both knowledgable as a thought leader in science and tech while being relatable, a series of articles were produced on topics including molecular gastronomy and acoustic design.
METHOD: By writing about science and tech in world renowned kitchens led by award-winning chefs, the brand leveraged their followers and social chatter to create brand interest and discovery. Foodies talk, and when Intel showed an interest in bringing them behind the scenes, they noticed.
Through an interactive piece on sound design in concert halls, we worked with illustrators to surprise readers with secrets of the ground beneath the very seats they may have enjoyed The Nutcracker at with their children.
Result: Through audience analytics and a survey conducted after 6 months of publishing showed a 30% growth in the number of visitors between the ages of 17 and 25. Readers also shared that they saw Intel as a knowledgable and trustworthy brand that was an industry thought and trend analysis leader.
Content Management: Books
In 2019, I worked with Janet Napolitano, United States Secretary of Homeland Security from 2009 to 2013, to bring her book How Safe Are We, to publication.
We were covering an evaluation of the DHS, US policy changes, and immigration politics in a time of great political sensitivity, and the work involved scrutinizing every word, fact, opinion, and claim, for social, legal, and political ramifications.
In 2015, I published Cholera in Haiti and the International Coverup on iTunes.
The ebook was the result of three years of work in Haiti and throughout the US, and features both the voices and words of UN officials, UN and independent scientists, US and Haitian government officials, medical practitioners and people on the ground affected by the introduction and spread of cholera in Haiti.
Through the content management process of both books, I collaborated, compromised, and learned from other writers, researchers, politicians, topical and legal experts and publishers while organizing and paying attention to details to bring the projects to its final destination into the hands of readers.
